2nd Honorable Mention — Data Analytic Dash at COMPFEST
University of Indonesia · National
Earned 2nd Honorable Mention in the Data Analytic Dash competition at COMPFEST 16, hosted by the University of Indonesia. The topic: how social media influences education outcomes in Indonesia.
The problem
- Indonesia ranked #62 out of 70 countries in PISA scores (avg 395.3), far below Singapore (551.7) and China (527.3).
- Social media usage has surged — 79% population penetration by 2023, with teens spending 116–193 minutes daily on social platforms.
- 41% of Indonesian children listed social media as a top activity, raising questions about its effect on academic performance.
What we built
- A data-driven analysis connecting social media usage trends to PISA education score data across Indonesia, Singapore, and China from 2010–2022.
- Visualized demographic breakdowns of Indonesian social media users by age group (20+ dominated at 60%, teens 5–18 at ~26%).
- Built an interactive Tableau dashboard as the primary deliverable — covering PISA trend lines, social media penetration over time, time-spent comparisons, and age-group distributions.
- Proposed evidence-backed solutions: government screen-time regulation, school-level social media policies, and parental supervision frameworks.
My role
- Led data sourcing from OECD, DataReportal, and Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia (KPAI).
- Designed the full Tableau dashboard layout, visual hierarchy, and narrative flow.
- Presented findings and recommendations to the judging panel.
